Why We Do

When women are empowered and treated equally, it leads to a more just and equitable society. Gender equality and women empowerment can lead to greater economic growth, improved health and well-being, reduced poverty and inequality, and increased political participation and decision-making power. Empowering women means unlocking their potential, which can lead to significant benefits not only for women themselves but for entire communities and societies.

Some Facts

According to UNESCO, 132 million girls worldwide are out of school and may never get the opportunity to learn to read or write.

In some countries, girls are less likely than boys to complete primary or secondary education. For example, in sub-Saharan Africa, only 8% of girls complete secondary education.

Women are often paid less than men for the same work. The gender pay gap persists globally, with women earning on average 16% less than men.

Women are also underrepresented in leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. According to the World Economic Forum, women currently hold just 27% of managerial positions globally.

Violence against women and girls is a major human rights violation, affecting millions of women worldwide. One in three women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.

Women are often excluded from decision-making processes in their communities and societies, leading to a lack of representation and voice.

Discrimination against women in access to healthcare is also a widespread problem, with women often receiving poorer quality care than men.

Women and girls are disproportionately affected by poverty, and are often denied economic opportunities and financial independence.

Discrimination against women can have a range of negative consequences, including limited educational opportunities, reduced economic productivity, and increased rates of violence and poverty.

Promoting gender equality and empowering women is essential for achieving sustainable development and building a better future for all.
